Chapoutier began producing wines in 1808 and the winery remains within the Chapoutier family control today. The Chapoutier philosophy has always been to work with nature, their family motto is "Fac et Spera"which means do and hope, a reflection of the need for both dynamism and patience in the conquest to create their world renowned wines. The name Ermite is thought to originate from the 17th Century story of Henry Gaspard, a returning knight from the Crusdades who was bequeated a plot of hillside land by the Queen of Spain, he lived there as a hermit and during his hernitage planted a vineyard. The wine is deep glossy red almost black in colour with perfumed ripe black fruit & spiced plum aromas, powerful & velvety in the mouth with full bodied tannins, the mulled fruit flavours deepen with a twist of pepper, cinammon, dark caramel, smoke & a slight herbaceous edge in the sumptuous finish. Further aging is advised to fully develop the flavours. www.chapoutier.fr 100% Syrah A full flavoured wine that pairs excellently with mutton or pork cassoulet, braised beef in a red wine sauce, Moroccan vegetable tagine & other North African inspired cuisine, barbecued meats & chargrilled vegetables. Be wary of highly peppered dishes. Other Hermitage winesRecently viewed wines |
