It is the largest of the three Leoville Estates and is recognised as the leading Estate in St. Julien, known for wines that are perfumed, intense, powerful and supremely well balanced. The second wine of the Chateau; Clos du Marquis has great and well deserved reputation, acknowledged perhaps as the best of all second wines it is produced from a designated area of the "l`Enclos" vineyard, rather than just from young vine fruit or grapes that didin`t make it into the Chateau wine, hence it is really a separate and distinct wine in its own right & is often compared to wines of 3rd and 4th Growth level. The bouquet opens with blackcurrant fruit, vegetal, herb & spice aromas, the palate is lean with firm forest fruit & cherry flavours underscored by fine grained sweet tannins, licorice and dried fruits in the finish.
